The Batley Lad

Update - 1/1/2000

It is now December 99 and my story has been on the net for six months, the response has been unbelievable. I am not on the internet myself and my good friend Bernard Ramsden has set the site up for me on his machine. I am not able to respond to all the kind letters and comments I have received and I would like to thank all of you out there and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

In contrast the response I have received from the local press and radio who seem to fall over backwards for a string of VIPs, not only reject me but just don't bother to acknowledge when I send them my story and that includes BBC Leeds. The local paper The Yorkshire Evening Post tries to be both a local and national paper and in my opinion does not do a very good job as a local paper because of this. This is the paper that sends me unsolicited circulars/personal letters telling me how good they are and even had two blokes unsolicited knocking on my door after dark and pestering me to order their paper. They then have the gall to say among other things when I complaint about them failing to acknowledge the receipt of my story, that I sent my story to them unsolicited, one good thing about the net, we the ordinary people can answer back.

I had the brilliant idea of sending my book to a famous Socialist writer hoping he might be able to give me an intro or what ever, so I sent my story off to Roy Hattersley , I posted it off on a Monday and received it back on the Thursday together with the following letter.

Dear Mr Hall

Thank you for writing to me about your hope to get your work published. Much as I would like to help , I fear there is nothing I can really do. Most magazines and newspapers are badly over subscribed and these days it is enormously difficult to break into journalism.

Yours Sincerely

Roy Hattersley MP

All I can say is Thanks Comrade and three cheers for the internet. PH
